Lectora is not a web development tool
I am still pretty new to the e-Learning scene. I have only been working with that intent for a little over a year now and find myself learning new things everyday. Recently I got to attend a user group focused on Lectora. The presentation was very informative but when I followed some of the links to the presenters website I was shocked to see it done in Lectora.
I know Lectora generates content largely as HTML but that is for complex course content that typically has to communicate with an LMS and perform things outside of the typical linking between pages. Being familiar with the content Lectora created, I took a peek at the HTML that was generated. The page consisted of a drop down menu with 5 top level elements and average of 3-4 sub elements. There were 3 clickable images that all contained text in the image, only one had equivalent text that would allow for search engines to find it. The total size was 127KB! The page could have easily been done in under 10-20KB and reduced total files from 29 to 4-5.
I am always for using the right tool for the right job. A hammer can be used to push in a screw but maybe a screwdriver would be better? Same with Lectora, it may be able to create web sites but should it be used for that? No, use it for course development as that is what it is designed for.
